BACKGROUND & DESCRIPTIONS
The 993 model is famously the last of the air-cooled 911s and was redesigned from the ground up, only borrowing 20% of its parts from the 964 generation. Significant technical advances, including a new light-alloy subframe with a coil and wishbone suspension, an all new engine and newly standard 6 speed transmission, made significant progress in creating a more civilized car and a greatly improved driving experience.
Designed by Tony Hatter, the 993 retained the classic 911 shape with updated panels, flared wheel arches, and a smoother bumper design. Its wide body accommodated a new multi-link rear suspension, enhancing stability and reducing oversteer, improving handling, ride quality, and reducing noise. The rear design prioritized handling over top speed, making it ideal for winding country roads. The 993 generation Porsche balanced usability and fun.
The 993 generation of the 911 is often referred to as the best and most desirable of the 911 series, not only because of its beauty, but also because its performance is very good, even by modern standards, and the 993 was the last complete 'modern classic'. The 993 is elegance and muscle all in one package.
