Today, we are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and super rare 420SL which was originally delivered & first registered in Hong Kong in 1987. This R107 presents very well and exudes elegance with custom painted 481 Bornite Metallic exterior in combination with the Brown leather trim and super rare PENTA wheels. A very good condition example, the car is powered by a powerful V8 engine in combination with the automatic gearbox, body coloured hardtop (with rack). With only 2148 units ever produced, this is the most scarce of the whole R107 Series.
The SL model has been part of the Mercedes-Benz line-up since 1954. The first generation of cars was completed in 1955 with the 190. The second generation began with the 230 in 1963 and was distinguished by its distinctive optional hardtop that earned the model its nickname ‘Pagoda top’. The factory codename for the SL launched in 1971 was R107. The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 were produced from 1971 through 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by the automaker, after the G-Class. They were sold under the SL (R107) and SLC (C107) model names as the 280 SL, 280 SLC, 300 SL, etc. up to the 560 SL.
The SL Series 107, released in 1971 as the successor to the Pagoda (W113 series), established a new design line at Mercedes-Benz with the broadband H4 headlamps and the large fluted taillights. The appearance of the R107 was stylistic for the Mercedes-Benz design in the 70s. The R107 took the chassis components of the mid size Mercedes-Benz W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class (W116).

Originally delivered by ZungFu Hong Kong Mercedes Benz Dealer in October 1987. Although 8 previous owners is noted on the VRD, according to the history file, it only have had 4 keepers since new. The first owner, a Headmistress of a well-known local school bought it new from the dealer and had it repainted into the current Bornite Metallic colour (which is available for the R129 series at the time)
This Mercedes has a good specification, air-condition, rear seats, power steering, electric windows and besides the convertible soft top, a body-coloured removable hardtop. The automatic transmission is smooth, the engine runs fantastically strong. CONDITION REPORT:
Original. Well-kept and consistently maintained. The bodywork is in a good condition with good paintwork and chrome details considering the age. Slight deterioration but not very serious. The rather good condition of this original Hong Kong example is a credit to the previous owner who invested time, money and effort to keep it beautiful. Equipped with scratch free Penta Wheels but with older tires. The Interior is largely showroom original, down to the AM/FM/Cassette unit and steering wheel, both sourced from USA. The air condition is efficient and cold. The front seats leather shell was replaced but otherwise, the original backseats, dash and door cards showing slight wear and tear, but largely looks very good for the age.
Always serviced and mechanically excellent. The engine bay is kept clean and tidy. Service record shows the car being consistently serviced. Spare wheel, body-coloured hardtop are present.
