Renault hand assembled 1,800 Sport Spiders in the Alpine factory in Dieppe but this Renault Sport Spider is just 1 of the 100 factory RHD produced in 1998.
All Renault Sport Spider came with full aluminium chassis, in board suspension and 2,000 cc Renault Sports 4 valves F7R engine, same as the one used in the Clio Williams, Formula Renault Junior and Megane Sports.
For several years, the Renault Spider Championship was the support race for BTCC, British GP. Champions of this series include BTCC Champion Jason Plato (who hosted Top Gear) and Macau GP winner Andy Priaulx (who was also a BTCC Champion for 4 consecutive years)
The Sports Spider that raced were equipped with Aero Screens only (no wipers) which could also be fitted to the road car.
